What are Nextdoor & Town Square?
Nextdoor and Town Square are in no way endorsed, funded, or operated in any manner by FLHPOA.
Nextdoor is a private social network that was started in 2010 and is based in San Francisco, CA. Nextdoor is not exclusive to FLHPOA. In fact, it is being used by over 160,000 neighborhoods globally! Many members of FLHPOA use Nextdoor for communicating news, selling items, reviewing vendors, etc.
Town Square is also a private social network. It is provided by our financial management company, Associa. Membership is limited to FLHPOA members. Town Square requires your account number to register, which allows them to limit access to property owners.
FLHPOA Usage/Involvement
Use of these social networks is at the discretion of FLHPOA members. Everyone that uses Nextdoor or Town Square must agree to the terms of service required of all members. These “Community Guidelines” are posted on the Nextdoor and Town Square websites and detail what constitutes both appropriate and inappropriate posts and the method for any Nextdoor or Town Square member to report inappropriate posts. The Nextdoor website also details the responsibilities of the Nextdoor Lead and the Lead’s role in moderating the site.
Currently, there aren't any FLHPOA board members acting as Nextdoor Leads for the "Fox Lake Hills" Nextdoor community, which also includes members of East Shore Gardens. No one on the board is monitoring conversations or the appropriateness of posts.
Although there is an FLHPOA group on Nextdoor, all former FLHPOA Nextdoor Leads and founding members have moved out of the association. Therefore, only people who were members of that group prior to March 2019 can post. No new members can be accepted as there is no one with the authority to approve them.
While FLHPOA board members may post and respond to posts in an "official" capacity on Nextdoor and/or Town Square, it is solely to relay information that is occurring within FLHPOA or to clarify or respond to a post made by another member. Of course, FLHPOA board members may also post on Nextdoor and/or Town Square as private citizens on any issue, which is the same right that every Nextdoor and Town Square member enjoys.
FLHPOA Recommendations
The FLHPOA Board recommends that residents contact an FLHPOA board member directly via email if they have a specific concern or question regarding the parks, harbor, or neighborhood. This is the quickest and easiest way to resolve issues and get answers to questions. Email addresses are on our Board Members page.
For issues regarding membership dues or assessments, residents should contact Associa directly via phone (847-882-8207) or email ([email protected]). Board members are not able to address concerns about property owners' accounts on Nextdoor or Town Square.
In addition to our website, the FLHPOA has an official, private group on Facebook called "Fox Lake Hills Home Property Owners." We recommend that homeowners join our group as this is an easy way for us to communicate with members quickly. Please be sure to answer the security questions to get approved to join the group.
